The Happiest 5k on the Planet: The Color Run

The Color Run was this weekend! It was raining and chilly, like, downpouring on us while we waited for our wave to get started. I kept trying to think of ways to sneak out and go home and read under lots of warm blankets. Hah. They wouldn't let me. And I'm glad they didn't, because we had fun.

Here are some of our before shots...

It was really a giant party. Even before we started, they had a Zumba instructor leading a Zumba class on stage. The music was cranked. It was fun, despite the rain.

Some parts of the course were muddy and full of puddles. The first one we came to, I jumped right in full force. I got my MIL pretty good. She wasn't expecting me to do that at all.

Here are some of our after shots. We did it!

Here are some thoughts about the run.

1. Don't open your mouth in the color stations.

2. Don't lift your arms in the color stations (i.e. the Rocky stance). I'm still green.

3. If you're a serious runner, probably not the run for you as it can get bottle-necked in places.

4. You will find color everywhere... belly buttons, toes, etc...

5. Even though we tried to set the color on the shirts (vinegar and ironing), everything kind of turned pink instead of staying how colorful they were after the race. Take a lot of photos during and after the race instead.

Nothing like a good day of family fun.

So, how does your family spend quality time?

Looking forward to making this an annual tradition!

Recap

Still attempting to run... still can't run past 3 minutes at a time.... slow going but at least I'm going. My asthma flared up so I had to scale back for a bit. Phin got to go with me a few times this week, too. He did great... I'm still surprised!

When does running get easier??

We fit in some play time at the park last weekend, too.

Where's Uncle N?

Peek-a-boo!

I've been working on getting my yard in order now that it's dry outside (except today... rain, again!). Flower boxes done, lillies planted, hostas planted, ferns up, stars back up, flag up, chairs out, etc. Next up is mulching and chopping down dead trees, bushes, shrubs (I already dug out two). Weed Man will be here next week.

Still reading... currently reading four books... Looking for Alaska, Interrupted, Between the Lines and Bossypants. I never do this but somehow now I have. I need to knock them out. I have a list stack a mile long of books to be read. That is NOT INCLUDING my book club books.

Our garden opens May 22nd... can't come soon enough. My tomato starts have been ordered and everything else is just waiting... and waiting and waiting... I can't wait!

I've grabbed some awesome yard sale/thrift finds lately. I found a Learning Tower for Daredevil. I don't know what we did without it. He loves it and I love that he can really help me clean veggies, stir water, make dinner, etc. I also found a kangaroo climber that I attempted to spray paint. I picked a light color to paint it. Not my smartest moment. I've spent more on paint than the climber but I'm about to call it good. Daredevil isn't going to care. I also found a wagon that we can use in the back yard to play in and then pick up our outdoor toys. Good thrifting lately.

Before

Now

Daredevil does not enjoy learning rules and boundaries. Like holding hands with an adult while walking. It's an uphill and constant battle. His new trick is trying to bite my hand off when I'm holding his hand.

Lots of bruises, bumps and scuffed knees right now. I never want to forget his first scraped knee. Gosh, I love these chunky legs.

Hipster. 'Nuff said.

Running Buddies

I am crazy and signed up to run a 5k in 6 weeks.

Ummm, I can't run. Like, have an asthmatic fit with a slight jog. Like, if you see me running call the police because I'm probably being chased. Like, I'm truly crazy. Truly.

I've been wanting to run this for awhile so I just did it. I just signed-up... I even did it before the early bird deadline passed. It's the funniest thing though. Wanting to run it and signing up for it has been crazy motivation. I know that in 6 weeks you can't become a 5k runner, but it'll give me somewhere to start and something to aim for.

I started the C25k which I do 3X's/week. So far on the other days, I walk anywhere from 1-3 miles depending on the weather, Daredevil's mood, our schedule, etc.

My running buddies are awesome and they keep me in line. I think they have more fun than I do. Once it warms up on our non-C25k days, we'll most likely swing by the park on the way home making me the best ever.

I'm still pretty sure I'm nuts though. I wasn't going to even tell anyone I was doing it because it is so crazy sounding. And because I'm pretty sure I will chicken out. But what the heck, now you know. I'm crazy.
