Lent

Now that Mardi Gras is over and we're settling into Lent, I thought I'd post on what Lent means for my family. I've been a regular observer of Lent, but usually I give up meat. Well, since that's already given up, I've decided to remove one thing from my life, but add another. I'm removing sugar -- specifically in the way of sodas, sugary drinks, sweets, candy, etc -- and I'm adding in a mile a day. I'm pretty good at walking each day but J has decided that for Lent, he will walk a mile a day with me. I'm stoked!

I hope to use these mile walks and sugar deprivations to prepare my family and my heart for Jesus's resurrection. It is the cornerstone of my faith and I love how adding or subtracting things from your life gives you ways to reach Him. When I go to reach for something sweet, I stop and pray. When I don't want to walk, I stop and pray. Praying and bringing my heart closer to God helps to encourage me to continue on my path. I know that He is with me each step of my Lenten journey.

Are you participating in Lent? If so, what are you giving up or adding in? Let's prepare our hearts together for his death and resurrection!

(And, Marianne, if you're reading this... what is that kind of rose called? Carnival roses are the ones with the  tips a different color, but these have a slightly different interior and exterior color. They are just beautiful! Love them!)

It's a little tough to tell (there are several orange-yellow varieties) but my best guess would be Voodoo. And the Carnival ones are more often called Circus nowadays.
